Our five favorite hotels in South Africa
Our five favorite hotels in South Africa, family-friendly and budget-friendly
Doing a roadtrip in South Africa means a lot of hotels! These are our favorites:
#1 - Whale Coast Hotel - Hermanus
#2 - Stannards guest lodge - Knysna
#3 - Ardmore guest farm - Winterton (Drakensberg)
#4 - Caza Beach Guest House - Duban
#5 - Luxury Tented Village @ Urban Glamping - St Lucia
#1 - Whale Coast Hotel - Hermanus
Our family room turned out to be a triplex apartement, bigger than our own house. On walking distance from the ocean, with a parking lot in front of the hotel, a terrace in the sun, a barbecue,... this place was just perfect!

#2 - Stannards guest lodge - Knysna
In a beautiful setting, just outside the busy center of Knysna you will find this gem. It is a small domain with lodges, which are actually small cozy houses. There is a swimming pool with barbecue. There is a restaurant in the main building and the owner is happy to provide you with all the information you need!

#3 - Ardmore guest farm - Winterton (Drakensberg)
A beautiful domain, a mix of lodges and cottages, and a main building where there are cozy areas where you can play games by the fire in the evening or have a drink with the other guests. This is the perfect base from which you can explore Drakensberg but still stay out of the tourist crowds. There are no restaurants nearby, but you don't miss this once you've tasted the delicious evening meal served in the hotel!

#4 - Caza Beach Guest House - Durban
Very small-scale, cosy, located in a quiet neighborhood near Durban and within walking distance of the coast. This guesthouse is run by Belgians and our opinion: staying here is pure indulgence!

#5 - Luxury Tented Village @ Urban Glamping - St Lucia
This place is perfectly located: in the heart of charming St Lucia. It's the perfect glamping experience: fully furnished tents, a centrally located tent where you can cook (we went out for dinner, most restaurants are within walking distance), breakfast is brought to the tent in the morning and the monkeys are being kept at a distance! St Lucia is an interesting place when you travel with your family. It's the hippo center of the world and close to the St Lucia Wetlands, a part of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park!
