Top 10 Travel Guides to Help You Plan Your Next Trip

Planning a trip and making your itinerary can be overwhelming, there is so much information out there! Blogs, websites, social media, ... where to start right?! We always use a travel guide and search additional information online. So, for us a travel guide is a real travel essential. Nothing can replace the reliability of a good guide. But there are so many books, so it's stressy when it comes to choosing the right travel guide. To help you make an informed decision, we've compiled a list of the top 10 travel guides to consider for your next adventure.

Lonely Planet

Lonely Planet is a well-known and trusted brand in the travel industry, offering a wide range of guidebooks for destinations all over the world. Their guides are known for their detailed and practical information, as well as their focus on sustainable and responsible travel. They offer budget travel options and helpful maps for navigating cities. Lonely Planet also offers digital guides and travel apps, making it easy to access their content on-the-go. Whether you're a budget traveler or looking for luxury experiences, Lonely Planet has a something for you, which probably makes these the most popular travel guides. But we think that is also their weakness: if you pick a restaurant from the guidebook, for example, these are always very popular places that have already adjusted their prices to the large flow of travelers!

Rough Guides

If you're looking for an easy way into a destination, Rough Guides ticks all the boxes.

Famous for its 'tell it like it is' approach to places, the guidebook series initially provided founder Mark Ellingham a way out of getting a 'real job' – but now offer thousands of readers practical and hands-on advice on more than 120 countries across the world, as well as being strong on cultural insights.

One of the standout features of Rough Guides is that their content is written by informed locals and experienced travelers who are passionate about sharing their knowledge of the places they know best. Unlike other travel guides that are written by anonymous contributors or writers with limited experience, Rough Guides provide travelers with comprehensive information on local culture, cuisine, history, and sightseeing opportunities. This level of detail ensures that travelers get an accurate and authentic understanding of the places they are visiting.

Rough Guides' commitment to quality content has won them numerous awards and accolades, including being named the "Best Guidebook Series" at the prestigious British Book Awards in 2020. The brand has also adapted to the digital age, offering e-books, interactive maps and other digital resources to help travelers plan their trips.
